Recycle Swop Shop 12th July 2011

Taking bags of recycling and swopping them for tokens.

Wow! How the Swop Shop has grown!

This week we took approximately 800 bags of recycling! The community of Du Noon are really embracing this project and seeing the benefits of recycling.

The children, women and a few men patiently waited for their tokens and a chance to buy some essential items from the swop shop.

This month Elkanah House ran a clothing drive on all 3 of their campuses and we received a huge amount of bags of clothes and shoes from them. Thank you to the organisers and parents.

Elkanah Schoolyard Market – 25 June

On the last Saturday of every month, Elkanah High hosts a Schoolyard market, where one may stroll around and peruse various stalls while munching on the delicious food on sale.

This was the second time we had a stall there and it proved to be great success! It was a wonderful opportunity to chat to people about Beyond Education and raise awareness about our Swop Shop in Du Noon.

We had all our different school, sanitary and food packs displayed and invited people to contribute towards them. In exchange, we handed out home-made cupcakes which were well received!

The fundraising went exceptionally well, and so we are now able to better stock the Swop Shop with essential items and stationary, which is great news for all our kids who visit the shop on a weekly basis.

If you haven’t yet visited the Elkanah Market, you’ve missed out. So come down this month and check it out! And while you’re there, find our stall and come and chat, donate a couple of bucks and get a cupcake.

As we like to say, it’s a win win situation.

We had a bumper day at the Recycle Swop Shop! Lots of happy children with warm clothes and winter shoes. The mum’s are also seeing the value in recycling and are coming with their children to help carry ALL the bags!We collected about another 90 bags of recycling today.

Jonathan and I did a few pick ups on our way to Du Noon and collected bags of clothes and blankets from Tanja, Bloubergrant Pre-Primary School and school clothes and hand made teddy bears from Life Changers Church.
